What does CAPSTONE project mean?

The senior design capstone project provides engineering students with an opportunity to engage in aspects of the discipline that extend beyond the traditional curriculum, thereby preparing them for future careers in industry, government, or academia. In particular, the capstone emphasises the practice of design and the application of theoretical knowledge to complex, real-world problems. Upon completion of the course sequence, students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in executing substantial team-based projects within their respective fields. They also develop the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts in both oral and written forms and to respond appropriately to ethical challenges commonly encountered in professional engineering practice. Within SDSU Georgia, an industry-sponsored capstone model has been introduced, enabling students to collaborate directly with business partners and address authentic engineering problems derived from industry needs.
